International, federal and state agencies are listed below in alphabetical order, along with a brief description of their mission and a link to their home pages.

You will also find links to agency websites that have resource materials for information specifically related to the management of natural resources on the Colorado River.

INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGENCIES

Climate Change Science Program (CCSP) integrates federal research on climate and global change, as sponsored by thirteen federal agencies and overseen by the Office of Science and Technology Policy, the Council on Environmental Quality, the National Economic Council and the Office of Management and Budget.

Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) was established to provide the decision-makers and others interested in climate change with an objective source of information about climate change.

International Boundary and Water Commission (IBWC): Our mission is to provide binational solutions to issues that arise during the application of United States - Mexico treaties regarding boundary demarcation, national ownership of waters, sanitation, water quality, and flood control in the border region.

FEDERAL AGENCIES

Army Corps of Engineers (USACE): Our military and civilian engineers, scientists and other specialists work hand in hand as leaders in engineering and environmental matters.

Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA): responsibility is the administration and management of 55.7 million acres of land held in trust by the United States for American Indians, Indian tribes, and Alaska Natives.

Bureau of Land Management (BLM): to sustain the health, diversity and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

Bureau of Reclamation (BoR or Reclamation): to manage, develop, and protect water and related resources in an environmentally and economically sound manner in the interest of the American public.

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA): to develop and enforce regulations that implement environmental laws enacted by Congress. EPA is responsible for researching and setting national standards for a variety of environmental programs, and delegates to states and tribes the responsibility for issuing permits and for monitoring and enforcing compliance.

Federal Energy Rugulatory Commission (FERC): The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission regulates and oversees energy industries in the economic, environmental, and safety interests of the American public.

Government Accountibility Office (GAO): supports the Congress in meeting its constitutional responsibilities and helps improve the performance and ensure the accountability of the federal government for the benefit of the American people.

National Academy of Sciences: The National Academy of Sciences (NAS) is an honorific society of distinguished scholars engaged in scientific and engineering research, dedicated to the furtherance of science and technology and to their use for the general welfare.

National Research Council (NRC): functions under the auspices of the National Academy of Sciences. The mission of the NRC is to improve government decision making and public policy, increase public education and understanding, and promote the dissemination of knowledge.

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA): is an agency that enriches life through science. Our reach goes from the surface of the sun to the depths of the ocean floor as we work to keep citizens informed of the changing environment around them.

National Park Service (NPS): preserves unimpaired the natural and cultural resources and values of the national park system for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations. The Park Service cooperates with partners to extend the benefits of natural and cultural resource conservation and outdoor recreation throughout this country and the world.

Western Area Power Administration (WAPA): markets and delivers reliable, cost-based hydroelectric power and related services within a 15-state region of the central and western U.S. We're one of four power marketing administrations within the U.S. Department of Energy whose role is to market and transmit electricity from multi-use water projects. Our transmission system carries electricity from 57 power plants operated by the Bureau of Reclamation, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the International Boundary and Water Commission.
